ABOUT US
The Star Project History
The Star Bright Project, recently renamed The Star Project, exists to provide
scholarships for the children of police killed
in the line of duty.
Their program director is:
Lt. Jack Ballentine of the SFPD
The Star Project was created in memory of a young policeman named Tom Kracke.
Tom had an on duty ankle injury, and later developed bone marrow cancer.
The cancer was deemed to be NOT work related. We assured Tom he would not have any
medical bills to pay.
The Catastrophic Illness Account was created and administered through the SFPOA,
our union. Tom had $ 108,000 to help him.
Tom has left us but we will not forget him. That fundraising effort took on a life of
its own. We hope The Star Project does the same and makes each fallen star shine
a bit brighter. To date 95 officers gave their lives doing their job of protecting others
SFPD Memorial.
The Star Project receives 75% of the proceeds of each vehicle donation.
TriStar Motors LLC receives 25% of the proceeds of each vehicle donation.
Founded in 2001, Star Bright Project now known as The Star Project
